Partner

It is hard being together with a performing artist. Right now I am referring to dancers in particular. We are born with a goal and a mission in our minds. Some of us are even pre-destined and the spirits have chosen our paths already. Our actions are mostly surrounded by our career, everything we do has to do with dance. At times we could have rehearsals from morning till night, performances, tours and if we do get time in between, then we need to take care of our bodies by eating right, exercising and sleeping. Our schedule is different from the rest of peoples’, it is irregular and very unpredictable.

In a relationship like that, your partner not only needs to love you for who you are, but he also needs to be understanding and very patient. Dance business is different from the rest of the professions and it demands all your energy and dedication. It is very competitive out there and if you will not be different and something special, then you simply will not have a job and this business is all about reaching the top and being better than anybody else. It is not only a profession, it is our passion, our life and our reason for breathing.

We all need love, just like the rest of the human beings. We are married to our careers, but we do need somebody who is a human being and who will hold us in the night, kiss and be there for us in the good and bad times. A lot of us say no to family, friends and love, all in order to reach where we want to be and dedicate ourselves completely to our passion. It is a very strong commitment, it requires a lot of strength and dedication from a dancer’s side. It is very hard to understand and accept, especially for an outsider.

A busy schedule shows that you are good at what you are doing and you talent is paid off and that you are appreciated. Sometimes I could leave early in the morning and come home late in the night, shower, sleep and wake up just to do the same thing all over again. There is a point when you go from rehearsal to rehearsal, studio to studio, changing busses, running, shoving food in your mouth, without thinking and chewing, just to make it on time.
